This was a project that was basically 'in the works' for some time — although I didn't realize it.
My paintings of the area have been an ongoing labor of love since about 1992. I began creating scenes that told 'stories' of our community in a very colourful, animated technique called 'Ink Resist.’ These paintings eventually became a traveling exhibition of 20 scenes. Many years later I have compiled over 70 images that cover the region from Temagami all the way to Kirkland Lake.
Deborah Ranchuk of White Mountain Publications approached me and offered to publish a book — if I would write a story to go along with the paintings.
The result is a very colourful and interesting journey through our region. We then decided it should be available in French as well — therefore ‘Tableaux du Témiskaming’ was born.
