Viki Mather
Viki lives by a little lake in Northern Ontario, about half way between Temagami and Sudbury as the raven flies. She began working with clay in the late 70's, then took a 25 year break while self-employed at a wilderness tourist lodge and raised two daughters. Several years ago, she joined the Sudbury Basin potters and picked up right where she left off. Mostly she makes bowls on the wheel, with slabs, pinch-pots and with coils. In 2013, she worked with the Friends of Temagami as part of the pARTners for Wolf Lake project to raise awareness of the old growth Red Pine forest, the largest contiguous old red pine forest in the world. Viki's studio is tucked under the boughs of these majestic pines. She signs her work with a stylized red pine needle to recognize the spiritual significance of the forest in her life.
